While those who had just entered the field in Indiana as recent licensees earned entry-level salaries that ranged between $37,410 and $46,500, by mid-career that number rose to $54,820. Physical therapist assistants who were highly experienced in their career and working within specialty areas like cardiopulmonary therapy, geriatrics, neurology or pediatrics had the opportunity to earn upwards of $73,740. In 2014, the U.S. Department of Labor named Kokomo, Indiana among the top five highest paying cities in the nation for physical therapist assistants. Coming on the heels of this exciting declaration was an announcement in October 2015 that Kokomo would be the home of a brand new $20 million, 105-unit assisted living facility. A large percentage of residents in Kokomo are 65 years and older, and the need for physical therapy professionals in the area is great. This new project will provide more PTA jobs in an already vibrant job market.

Salaries for PTAs in Indiana’s Major Metropolitan and Non-Metropolitan Areas

Indiana has spared no reasonable expense in helping provide residents access to quality physical therapy, and the competitive salaries that PTAs in the state earn stands as proof of that. Throughout the state, salaries vary slightly, depending upon the local demand for physical therapy and the metropolitan or non-metropolitan surroundings in a given area.

For instance, in 2014 PTAs working in the Indianapolis-Carmel area earned an average annual salary of $56,660, or $27.24 per hour. Those employed in Anderson reported earnings of $57,080, annually ($27.44/hr). Not surprisingly, Kokomo topped the list, paying its physical therapist assistants an annual salary of $73,760, or $35.46 per hour on average.
